Buckinghamshire Hospitals NHS Trust – Choose + Book Implementation

The purpose of the project was to:

  • develop a capacity planning model based on number of outpatient clinics by consultant per specialty
  • derive inputs from the capacity planning model to decide the order of the Choose and Book rollout
  • develop and maintain the Choose and Book implementation plan
  • liaise with the supplier on setting up a test environment (connecting to NIS (National Infrastructure Sandpit)
  • maintain the defect log
  • co-ordinate defect resolution
  • assist the Trust Test Manager in test report preparation
  • ensure that the Choose and Book project team/lead have configured the DoS (Directory of Services) in line with Cerner Millennium clinics set up and project schedule

The key challenges faced by the project were:

  • Lack of documentation from supplier
  • Short timescales

  • Consultancy services to develop the capacity planning model
  • Technical services to develop the capacity planning toolkit
  • Project management support to co-ordinate tasks between various teams
  • Testing services by maintaining defect log
  • Solution Specialist services to resolve queries raised by end users

The following were the key benefits delivered by the project:

  • The overlaps between various workstreams and project teams were managed effectively
  • Quick turnaround of technical and functional queries
