We were proud to have been joined by some esteemed speakers including Karen Byer from PA Consulting, Sophie Brady from the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, and Mary Mundy from Capsticks LLP. Their presence enriched the event, as they offered insights and perspectives on topics ranging from menopause and wellbeing to navigating the delicate balance between work and family life. The group discussed how progress has been made in recent years with the introduction of female test dummies and plaster to suit different skin colours, but there was a resounding agreement that there is a still long way to go.
However, it was the recurring theme of bravery that truly resonated throughout the event. The women engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the importance of being brave enough to advocate for oneself and others, the bravery to be vulnerable and seeking support when needed but also the bravery to communicate and know your worth. These conversations, mixed with personal anecdotes and shared experiences, left a lasting impact on all present.
Rupal Thakarshi, Managing Consultant and lead for the Apira Women’s Network, expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming turnout and the contributions of both speakers and attendees. She said: “Celebrating together was a testament to the power of unity, where every laugh, every conversation, and every shared moment affirmed the remarkable impact of women coming together.”
The event concluded on a high note, with attendees leaving with wellness-themed goodie bags put together to pamper and inspire. Featuring products from women-led businesses like Popcorn Kitchen and Space Masks, the gesture was a lovely way to finish such a great event.
Looking ahead, the Apira Women’s Network is poised to continue its mission of advocating for women in health and technology, leveraging the momentum gained from this successful brunch. As the brunch drew to a close, it was evident that this gathering had not only celebrated International Women’s Day but also laid the foundation for future endeavours in championing women’s voices and achievements.
